Atra Aeterna is the one man musical operation fronted by twenty-something Canadian, Zack Mitchell. Born in Kingston, Ontario, Zack originally came into contact with Reason, his music production software, in Fall of 2004, as he was looking to find out how the people at Overclocked.org (a video game music remix community) did their work. At the time he was interested in making video game remixes, as well as hip hop music. Over the next year or so he made a decent batch of song fragments and experiments, but was unhappy with the work because he didn’t think it sounded like hip hop. He eventually went to college and shared his music with his friends, several of whom told him some very sound advice; don’t try to be something you’re not, do your best, create what feels right and accept whatever comes out as a product of yourself. He began to embrace the style of music he was creating and has been composing ever since. The majority of his albums are available on a variety of digital download sites/programs (iTunes etc.), and he recently created his home base website, http://www.atraaeterna.com, a site which features full length streaming of songs/albums and has a built in purchasing system, with everything available in a variety of formats and bitrates.
